• Assessment of 150 pesticides in surface waters of an agricultural frontier. • Pesticide occurrence is driven by seasonality, land use, and compound traits. • Clomazone had the highest levels and occurred at all sampling sites. • Rainy season showed higher pesticide levels and diversity, especially near farmland. • Integrated risk management is needed to reduce herbicide residues.
