• Hierarchical Co₃S₄@MoS₂ nanoneedles with a highly roughened surface were fabricated by one-step hydrothermal topotactic sulfurization. • The optimized Co₃S₄@MoS₂ heterostructure exhibits enhanced structural features and electrochemical performance. • HSC assembled with Co3S4@MoS2/3DG as positive and CNTs/NF as negative electrodes.
