Abstract

• Ti2NbC2Tx MXene was synthesized by one-step NH4HF2 etching in air. • Alkaline functionalization converted F-rich terminations into O-rich species. • Surface termination regulation improved Li-ion storage and long-term cycling stability. • The optimized MXene delivered 222 mAh g−1 with stable cycling over 1000 cycles.
