One of the most promising novel areas within the field of Solid State Ionics is optoionics, the science of ionic and ionic/electronic processes upon illumination. After an introduction to the powerful tool of Kro & uml;ger-Vink diagrams, it is set out that such diagrams can be extended to the illuminated situation with corresponding consequences not only on electronic but also on ionic charge carrier concentrations and hence on related mass transport and storage properties.
