• We study the spectacular high-grade breccia pipe bodies of Kochbulak Au-Ag-Te deposit. • Pyrite chemistry traces different mechanisms governing gold precipitation. • In ore sub-stage I, Te-rich melts scavenge Au from hydrothermal fluids. • In ore sub-stage II vigorous boiling triggers abundant native Au precipitation.
