• Oriented thin films of SrFe12O19 hexaferrite compound grow on Al2O3 single crystals. • Seed layer alleviates the lattice misfit between the film and A-, C-, M- and R-cut Al2O3 substrate. • Epitaxial orientation relation between related structures can be established. • Due to high anisotropy, microwave parameters of CSD films comparable to other methods.
