This study identifies a novel OsGSK2-OsHSF7 phosphorylation module that controls rice thermotolerance. OsGSK2 negatively regulates rice thermotolerance by modulating heat-responsive genes and directly phosphorylating the interacting heat shock factor OsHSF7. Genetic characterization of the Gi/hsf7 double mutant further validates this epistatic genetic interaction.
