Abstract

• SIC and SOC stocks in red soils are decoupled, governed by aridity index and total nitrogen, respectively. • Significant land use and parent material interactions control organic carbon sequestration. • Decipher direct land use effects on SOC but only indirect effects on SIC via soil properties. • The spatial distribution of SIC, SOC, POC, and MAOC stocks were mapped with machine learning models.
