• PIM-2 shows highest catalytic efficiency (12.65 μmol/g/h) among PIM catalysts. • Pd(II)-PIM regenerable, >75% activity after 5 cycles for CS2 hydrolysis. • Experiments elucidate CS2 hydrolysis & S2−-poisoned intermediate (PIM-3). • Well-defined metal chelation within PIM enables efficient mild catalysis.
