Utilizing wave optics simulations and multi-layer phase screen models, this study systematically investigates the propagation characteristics of arbitrary-order vortex beams (AOVBs) and arbitrary-order vortex beam arrays (AOVBAs) in atmospheric turbulence channels. Key metrics, including the aperture-averaged scintillation index, the mean signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and the mean bit error rate (BER), are evaluated to assess their performance in turbulent atmospheric conditions, with a particular emphasis on their potential as spatial optical communication links. The findings elucidate the impact of topological charge and the number of beamlets on the propagation behavior and communication performance of these optical beams, providing valuable insights into the optimization of optical link design.
