Cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) induces extreme disturbances in physiological homeostasis, which may trigger vaso‑occlusive crises and hemolysis in patients with sickle cell disease (SCD). The aim was to describe perioperative management, complications and outcomes in SCD patients undergoing cardiac surgery.
