• MIIAD enables diffusion-controlled phase selectivity in solid-state reactions. • Fe2O3 matrix directs Ca/V diffusion and suppresses Ca-rich vanadates. • CaV2O6 is stabilized even under excess CaO via diffusion control. • DFT and STEM reveal diffusion hierarchy governing phase formation. • MIIAD enables energy-efficient vanadium extraction under mild leach.
