Abstract

A phase-shifter-aided generalized spatial modulation (PS-GSM) scheme is proposed, where phase shifters are exploited as an additional dimension to convey information. By jointly utilizing antenna indices and phase-domain symbols, the proposed scheme enhances the effective multiplexing capability without increasing the number of radio frequency (RF) chains. To facilitate practical implementation, a low-complexity linear-assisted maximum likelihood (LA-ML) detector is developed, which reduces the exhaustive search space while maintaining near-optimal performance. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed PS-GSM scheme significantly outperforms conventional spatial modulation (SM) and related phase-shifteraided spatial multiplexing (PSSM) benchmarks at the same transmission rate, achieving a favorable trade-off between error and complexity.
