• Addition of catalysts reduces apparent activation energy by 44–48% in co-pyrolysis. • The presence of CaO cuts acid derivatives & boosts alkyl phenols from PS/PET blends. • Potash catalyst lowers PAHs by 8.4% & increases furans in PS/PVC liquid fraction. • Potash-modified char enhances reactive sites to remove heavy metals.
