• The effects of temperature variation and ultraviolet radiation on PV module failures are considered and solved by IMOBKA. • IMOBKA is proposed for the first time as a PV reconfiguration method to mitigate shading, faults, and degradation effects. • A 3-opt strategy is incorporated into IMOBKA to enhance its local search ability and convergence speed in desert PV systems.
