Polyoxometalate-kaolinite decorated carbon nanotubes as twisted fiber towards electrochemical sensing of biomolecules: A mechanistic insight

Ascorbic acid (AA) is an important antioxidant, crucial for collagen synthesis and immune response while dopamine (DA) is an essential neurotransmitter that is linked to nerve signaling associated to control the brain functioning. Therefore, accurate detection of AA and DA is vital in order to regulate body functions. In this study, electrochemical sensors comprising Polyoxometalate-kaolinite (K-POM) over carbon nanotube fiber (K-POM@CNTF) and powder (K-POM/CNTP@GCE) were fabricated and used as electrodes for the sensing of AA and DA. Surface fabrication of CNTs was characterized using FTIR, X-ray Diffraction, and Scanning Electron Microscope. While electrochemical behavior of these materials for the detection of AA and DA was studied via cyclic voltammetric studies. K-POM over CNTF surface revealed a high sensitivity of 1.67 mAcm-2 mM-1 and 7.69 mAcm-2 mM-1 with a low detection limit of 0.05 mM and 0.04 mM for AA and DA respectively. In contrast, K-POM modified CNTs in powder form exhibited a low sensitivity of 0.11 mAcm-2 mM-1 and 1.72 mA cm-2mM-1 with detection limit of 0.09 mM and 0.08 mM for AA and DA respectively. These findings underscore the potential of K-POM@CNTF as a highly efficient platform for simultaneous biomolecule sensing.act
