Population ecology and ET based climate smart pest management of a generalist Spilosoma obliqua walker on twenty economic crops

The stage-specific two-sex pooled life table, nutritional ecology and economic thresholds (ETs) of S. obliqua Walker (Lepidoptera: Arctiidae) was investigated on twenty economic crops of seven families (Asteraceae, Malvaceae, Pedaliaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Fabaceae, Brassicaceae and Solanaceae) along with their carbon sequestrations (CSs) during 2021-2023. The feeding and population ecology of S. obliqua were significantly (F-19,F-38 >= 1.921, P < 0.05) affected by the host phytoconstituents in terms of host suitability or susceptibility (H1>& mldr;> H20). The range of ET for S obliqua was 294.205-1.066 pests/m(2) area for the selected crops depending on host choice and damage potential. For a single pest/m(2) area of each crop plant the possible time span (Tt) that can be taken to reach ET were 220.429-0.982 day(s) on the crops like ETs. It will obviously help farmers for sustainable management of S obliqua by applying appropriate control measures judiciously within the limit of pest population (ET) and or within the time span (Tt) to reach the ET in their agro ecosystem. Even, the crops have a range of CSs (22907.942-4113.191 kg/ha) due to different biomass production which can be used for climate smart agriculture (CSA), in addition with host preference (H1>& mldr;> H20) based trap cropping and ET based time specific pest management strategies, to promote climate smart pest management (CSPM) of these crops.
