Power flow analysis (PFA) of the traction network is essential for determining the steady-state system variables for reliable planning, implementation and safe operation of the traction power system network. However, the presence of parallel feeding sections in the double-track auto-transformer (AT) fed 2 & times; 27.5 kV traction networks increases the complexity of using existing PFA methods. This paper develops Modified Sequential Power Flow (MSPF) method based on sequential linear power flow (SPF) for double-track AT-fed 2 & times; 27.5 kV traction networks fed by traction substation transformer. For this purpose, appropriate equivalent circuit models of the single-phase, V/V and Scott transformer are developed without assuming zero rail current. This reduces the percentage error in voltage calculation of the traction network. Thereafter, the performance and efficiency of the developed MSPF method are validated by comparing the results obtained with the detailed time-domain simulation studies and other existing methods. Further, the performance of the developed MSPF algorithm has been compared against that of the CBNR PFA method on the traction network given in the EN50641 standard and a Taiwan high-speed railway (HSR) network consisting of multiple traction substations (TSS) under both normal and TSS outage operating condition.
