• A probabilistic risk assessment framework is developed based on a time-stepping, direction-dependent typhoon hazard model for industrial-complex power grids. • The proposed hazard representation captures the temporal evolution of wind direction and direction-dependent topographic amplification during storm passage. • Comparison with peak-wind and closest-approach methods shows that simplified hazard representations can underestimate outage risk and economic loss. • The framework links the improved hazard representation to component fragility, connectivity-based outage analysis, and site-specific economic loss assessment. • Case studies in South Korea show how outage risk and economic loss are jointly shaped by terrain, grid configuration, and industrial characteristics.
