• Dietary chitosan can promote the growth and feed utilization of juvenile largemouth bass. • The appropriate range of dietary chitosan content is estimated to be 5.0 - 7.5 g/kg. • Chitosan can enhance digestive enzyme activity and non-specific immunity. • The 5.0 g/kg diet reduced oxidative damage during transport stress. • Chitosan regulates Nrf2-Keap1 and NF-κB related reactions.
