• This introductory overview describes publicly available Earth System Model data, its current formats, and emphasizes the importance of following best practices for data production and analysis in the new era of cloud computing. We illustrate the differences between commercial cloud and on-premises computing with a sample workflow, highlighting variations in computation time. Our aim is to assist the Earth System data community, including Data Archive Centers and Data Producers, in generating data that enables Users to perform analyses using commercial cloud platforms. These changes will enhance the value and benefits of publicly available Earth System Model data for future scientific research, applications, and decision-making.
