The presented work is in line with modern trends in the application of chemical recycling products of polymers in the further processing and modification of plastics. The aim of the study was to test the possibility of using one of the products of chemical recycling of poly(ε-caprolactone), i.e., cyclic dimer -1,8-dioxacyclotetradecane-2,9-dione (DCLO), as a plasticizer for poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC), which has not yet been described in the literature. The mixtures were prepared by mixing in solution and in melt. When the solvent evaporates from the solution, the DCLO separates and forms a crystalline structure, limiting the softening effect of the DCLO. The DCLO in concentrations of 28 and 37% was used to soften PVC in melt at 170 °C. Thermal analyses (DSC and DMA) show that DCLO has a significant plasticizing effect in PVC; the glass transition temperature dropped from 89 °C in unplasticized PVC to − 3 °C with a DCLO content of 37%. The softening effects of the DCLO are comparable to the polymer plasticizer poly(ε-caprolactone).
