• The sonosensitive pathways and immunomodulatory mechanisms elicited by metal complex-based nanoplatforms for cancer SDIT are highlighted. • This review summarizes recent advances in metal complex-based nanoplatforms for cancer SDIT and their state-of-the-art structural design strategies. • The existing challenges and future perspectives about the structure-activity relationships and clinical translation of metal complex-based nanoplatform-mediated SDIT are outlined herein.
