Abstract

In 2025, research on light metal materials with rare-earth continued to advance, focusing on high-strength, functionalised and engineered applications. Mg-RE alloys are shifting from high-content rare-earth strengthening towards low-alloying design and precise microstructural control, with new progress being made in the integrated design of structure and function; Al-RE alloys further focus on microstructural refinement, the control of iron-rich phases, and the high-value utilisation of recycled aluminium; Ti-RE alloys has shifted from a sole emphasis on microstructural refinement and strengthening towards functionalised designs, such as heat resistance, corrosion resistance and wear resistance, tailored for complex service environments. Looking ahead, research into rare-earth light metal systems, including magnesium, aluminium and titanium, will be geared towards engineering application requirements, further centering on multi-scale microstructural co-design to drive the deep integration of science, technology and industry.
