Sepsis-induced coagulopathy (SIC) was introduced to identify early coagulation abnormalities in sepsis and to predict progression to overt disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). However, inclusion of the SOFA may conflate coagulation-specific biology with overall illness severity.
