• Sesamolin induces developmental abnormalities in zebrafish embryos, such as yolk sac edema, spinal curvature, blood clots, and defects in erythropoiesis. • Sesamolin downregulates the expression of several proteins, including vitellogenins, ribosomal proteins, cytoskeletal proteins, heat shock proteins, hemoglobin proteins, and ATP synthase. • The toxicity of sesamolin stems from its impact on the expression of proteins involved in development, cell structure, and metabolic processes.
