• Pyrolysis kinetic behavior and product properties of bamboo waste were systematically studied. • The three-parallel-reactions model could well describe the pyrolysis process of bamboo waste. • 400 °C was the optimum temperature for the recovery of high value-added bio-oil. • The pyrolysis reaction mechanism of bamboo waste pyrolysis was proposed.
