• A city-scale geospatial model maps food waste across ICI sectors. • Monte Carlo quantifies sectoral and spatial uncertainty from 3 building footprint datasets. • Model estimates Montreal’s ICI sectors generated 215 ± 8 kt yr−1 of food waste. • 6% of the area generates >50% of food waste; 83% from food services and retail. • The model supports targeted waste diversion policies in other cities.
