• A bioinspired delivery system was developed for dual-function agrochemical delivery. • Protein-polyphenol interactions regulate nanocapsule structure and release behaviour. • pH-responsiveness enables controlled release of quercetin in soil systems. • An SPI:zein ratio of 1:2 achieves optimal performance for quercetin delivery. • Sustained quercetin delivery suppresses insect feeding while promoting crop growth.
