• Q/ZnO NPs significantly reduce the structural & global stability of FeIII-Cytchm c at alkaline pH conditions. • Q/ZnO NPs don't alter the alkaline transition and peroxidase activity of FeIII-Cytchm c • Q/ZnO NPs exhibit the pH-dependent interactions with FeIII-Cytchm c • Q/ZnO NPs shorten the Trp-fluorescence lifetimes of FeIII-Cytchm c at neutral and alkaline pH conditions. • ITC and steady-state fluorescence studies suggest interaction of Q/ZnO NPs with FeIII-Cytchm c at alkaline pH
