Abstract

Abstract

En 中文
Radioactivity levels of natural radionuclides (Ra-226, Th-232, K-40) and the anthropogenic radionuclide (Cs-137) in peloids from five Mexican locations-Los Azufres (LA), La Bocana (LBC), Catemaco (C), Taninul Pool (TP), and Taninul Extemporaneous (TE)-were investigated. The radionuclide concentrations, in Bq kg-1 dry weight, ranged as follows:Ra- 226 (19-1213), Th-232 (19-96), measured K-40 (< 20-572), and Cs-137 (< 7), which are consistent with values reported for therapeutic peloids used worldwide. The estimated annual effective dose for( 226)Ra-enriched peloids, considering the short exposure times typical of therapeutic practices at spas, is well below the accepted skin dose limits for the general public. Therefore, the radioactivity levels found in the studied peloids are not significant and do not pose a radiological risk, making them safe for use in therapeutic and cosmetic applications.
