• A microwave-assisted reductive strategy enables rapid separation-regeneration of spent LIB cathodes within 10 min. • Microwave activation ensures complete PVDF decomposition and clean release of active materials from Al foil. • Tea polyphenol reductive radicals drive Li replenishment and structural repair of LiFePO4. • The regenerated LiFePO4 shows high electrochemical performance, and the strategy is extendable to NCM cathodes.
