As a class of materials with a hierarchical superstructure formed through the highly ordered self-assembly of nanocrystals, mesocrystals possess distinctive advantages in photocatalysis due to the combined features of high crystallinity, large specific surface area, and oriented interfaces that facilitate photogenerated charge transfer. These properties have garnered significant interest among researchers, with TiO2 mesocrystals emerging as a major research focus. Beyond photocatalysis, their applications have expanded to other areas such as solar cells, sensors, and antibacterial agents. Additionally, much research has concentrated on their synthesis, morphology, and performance optimization. Despite this, recent comprehensive reviews on TiO2 mesocrystals are lacking. This paper presents an overview of the latest developments in the synthesis, modification, and applications of TiO2 mesocrystals, alongside advancements in characterization techniques and mechanistic studies since 2018, and discusses the existing challenges and future research directions.
