Reducing defects in ruthenium oxide via crystal engineering towards a durable acid oxygen evolution reaction

Abstract

The insufficient stability of RuO2 for industrial proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE) remains a major challenge. Here, we report a crystal engineering strategy to fabricate undoped RuO2 with reduced defects, which delivers excellent activity (187.7 mV@10 mA cm(-2)), superior stability (250 h), and durable PEMWE performance (200 h@100 mA cm(-2)).
