• A cost-effective engineering control was implemented in an occupational setting. • This pragmatic intervention reduced air and urine melamine concentrations in melamine workers. • Urinary MDA, an oxidative stress marker, decreased (β coefficient = −0.47) after intervention. • Dual benefits to reduce melamine and improve short-term health indicators were noted.
