• A novel step-scheme (S-scheme) heterojunction barium titanate-modified cyanuric acid-melamine-based carbon nitride (BaTiO3/CMCN) photocatalyst was prepared. • The dissociation energy of photogenerated excitons was significantly decreased by constructing a BaTiO3/CMCN S-scheme heterojunction. • BaTiO3/CMCN exhibited excellent photocatalytic hydrogen peroxide evolution performance under visible light irradiation.
