• The dispersed MgZn2 phases are reprecipitated in the LAHW-ed joint by T74 heat treatment. • The compositional segregation and low-melting eutectic phases are completely eliminated. • The overall mechanical properties of LAHW-ed joint are equivalent to that of the base metal.
