Global climate change and resource depletion have made remanufacturing a crucial strategy for extending product life cycles, reducing resource consumption, and mitigating environmental pollution, thereby promoting sustainable production. Optimizing remanufacturing process paths is essential for achieving energy conservation, reducing emissions, enhancing quality, and improving economic efficiency. However, most studies fail to integrate these three dimensions into a unified decision-making framework, relying heavily on subjective judgment. This paper proposes a low-carbon optimization decision-making method for remanufacturing process paths that simultaneously considers carbon footprint, quality benefit, and comprehensive benefit. The procedure involves collecting data on the remanufacturing process and constructing a carbon emission model encompassing six dimensions: energy, materials, equipment, services, research and development, and waste. Based on Taguchi’s quality concept, a quality benefit function was developed, and a comprehensive benefit model was established to optimize the process path. An empirical case study on worn automotive connecting rods demonstrates that laser cladding performs best across all evaluation dimensions. Compared to the traditional honing path, carbon emissions are decreased by 12.56%, quality benefits increase by 19.18 CNY, and comprehensive benefits improve by 19.67 CNY. The proposed method reduces carbon emissions during remanufacturing while ensuring product quality. These findings confirm its practicality and provide remanufacturing enterprises with new tools for lean and low-carbon management, offering both theoretical support and practical guidance for sustainable industry development.
