• The study presents the synthesis of V2O5 nanosheets and their properties for environmental remediation. • Hydrothermal synthesis using P123 surfactant improved nanosheet morphology and activity. • V2O5 nanosheets achieved 97.96 % MB dye degradation in 150 min showing exceptional efficiency. • Porous V2O5 nanosheets enhance advanced and sustainable wastewater treatment methods. • Porous structure and large surface area enhanced photocatalytic efficiency of V2O5.
