• High bearing capacity and reprogramability is reconciled in an origami structure • The origami is tessellated by bistable units with concave and convex states • The origami structure is composed of rigid-flexible-rigid sandwich • The structure can bear a max load of 19000 times its own weight • Compressive strength of a 4 × 4 unit can be tuned from 0.5-3.1 MPa
