• In-cylinder nitrogen oxides abatement via selective non-catalytic reduction. • After introducing the ammonia post-injection, the indicated thermal efficiency will decrease. • Matching reasonable ammonia post-injection timing and injection proportion can achieve significant emission reduction of nitrogen oxides. • The emissions of nitrogen oxides and nitrous oxide exhibit a distinct competitive relationship.
