• OECD test guidelines (TG) 431 and 439 do not explicitly include agrochemicals. • We evaluated in vitro data (TG 431 and/or 439) for 187 agrochemical formulations. • We also evaluated the GHS concentration threshold (CT) approach. • TG 439 and the CT approach were predictive of in vivo mild/non-irritant categories. • These methods could greatly reduce animal use for skin irritation testing.
