• Distinguish condensate-droplet shedding from isolated-droplet sliding cognitively. • Shedding droplets depart at ∼0.7 mm, far below 3.1 mm for the sliding diameter. • Elucidate condensate droplet shedding by a droplet population dynamics framework. • Propose a credible model for the departure diameter of shedding condensate droplets. • Predict condensation heat transfer based on the modeled shedding departure diameter.
