• Dynamic modeling framework developed for hybrid geothermal heat pump–TES systems. • TES markedly reduces equipment sizing requirements, improving cost-effectiveness. • Larger TES capacities significantly limit or eliminate auxiliary heating needs. • TES integration dampens high-frequency ground thermal loads, enhancing long-term borefield performance. • Hybrid GHP–TES systems enable efficient, flexible, fully electrified heating for cold climates.
