Abstract

• Hertz–Greenwood predictions overpredict recycled concrete aggregate normal stiffness. • Mindlin–Deresiewicz theory overestimates tangential contact stiffness. • Estimated recycled concrete aggregate contact area is only 4–6% of the Hertz area. • Cement mortar coating unifies friction coefficient to 0.60–0.70 across materials. • Shell–core compliance explains coating-controlled contact evolution.
