Satellite Reference Databases (SRDBs) constitute a class of domain-specific databases that aim to manage data to command and monitor spacecrafts' on-board systems. SRDBs have been identified as a key area of research and industry as they play a major role in the design, operation, and testing of spacecraft. In this paper, we attempt to identify two research questions related to the studies on surveying research on the scope and the data organization in SRDBs, respectively. To improve the survey to be more comprehensible, we provide a simple use case that will be used to illustrate the aspects discussed in the literature. The aim of our survey is to clarify the underlying concepts behind the SRDBs and to gain insights into their working mechanisms.
