• development of cost-effective and efficient metal catalysts for H2 storage/release. • catalytic hydrogenation of toluene(TOL), dehydrogenation of methylcyclohexane(MCH). • Ni/Al2O3 shows moderate activity and selectivity in MCH dehydrogenation. • bimetallic NiIn/Al2O3 shows high activity and selectivity in MCH dehydrogenation. • formation of pure Ni domains responsible for undesired side reactions was suppressed.
