• SbCPN10L and SbNHX1 enhance salt and drought stress tolerance in tobacco. • Transgenic plants showed better germination, growth, water status, and osmotic balance. • Enhanced osmolytes reduce ROS damage and maintain membrane stability. • Dual gene expression induced protection enhanced the PSII efficiency. • SbCPN10L and SbNHX1 provide additive stress resilience mechanisms.
