• 4 wt% FeMnCoCr in situ alloying enhances the UTS by 16% (RT) and 58% (300 °C). • Nano-sized bcc α-Al15(Fe, Mn, Co, Cr)3Si2 forms and refines the cellular structure. • Solute segregation and local thermal histories promote pronounced heterostructures. • FIB + TEM shows a multilayer interface between the matrix and retained FeMnCoCr powder.
