In current study,CaO-B2O3-SiO2 (CBS),MgO-B2O3-SiO2 (MBS) and ZnO-B2O3-SiO2 (ZBS) glass powders were prepared by melting-water quenching method and physical ball milling. These three kind of glass powders, as the low-temperature inorganic binder, were subsequently mixed with SnO2 powders at mass fractions of 1.5 wt%, 3.0 wt%, 4.5 wt%, and 6.0 wt%. The resulting mixture was used to fabricate thick-film semiconductor gas sensors. The results indicate that the sensor doped with 3.0 wt% CBS glass binder exhibits the best performances, i.e. the response, sensitivity, and selectivity toward hydrogen, ethanol, and other target gases. Based on these findings, the SnO2-based composite with 3.0 wt% CBS glass binder additive was further loaded with varying concentrations (0.1 wt%, 0.2 wt%, 0.4 wt%, and 0.6 wt%) of noble metals (Pt, Pd, and Pt-Pd respectively) to construct a 12-unit sensor array. A novel method, i.e. high and low-temperature cycling, was used to improve long-term stability of these sensors. Measurement results demonstrate that the sensor array displays distinct response patterns to different gases, enabling accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis of methanol, ammonia, ethanol, and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
